atlantis sinking

::calgary.alberta.canada.temp.-10ºC.humidity.79%.a.few.clouds::

it is a day of injustice as one of my favorite canadian artists just put a very poor showing for a live concert. touring for his third album release "atlantis: hymns for disco", k-os is a proven artist exhibiting signs of lyrical and melodical genius. creatively eclectic, k-os blends a mix of rock, rap, funk and hip hop to create a unique mash up flavor that is known as the k-os sound.

and overtly creative he was. opening the macewan hall ballroom on the university campus, expectations were high as k-os appeared donning a camoflage hoodie and dark aviators. his indie rock band started rocking out (yes i said INDIE rock band) to a standstill stunned audience. drowned out by his own band's heavy drums and guitar riffs, he spit mumblingly into his mic apparently singing songs we are supposed to be familar with. sadly this confusing collaboration continued for the remainder of the performance. note that there was some highlights, as he did throw out some freestyle and played a stylish lo-fi drum & bass style cover to one of his tracks.

i can only speculate on what was going thru his head when he designed the flow and structure of the concert. he wanted a fusion of rock and hip hop, where the combination of the two genres is greater than they are apart. see, thinking outside of the box can only take you as far as you are capable of executing. in the case of the concert, k-os never reached that echelon of greatness.

so i'm not really sure whether k-os is ahead of his time or whether k-os' ego is just bigger than
himself. so far he's undeniably both, "atlantis: hymns for disco" being the former and the latter his performance in calgary.
